Workshop: “Extracting evidence from clinical free text: opportunities and challenges”
April 25, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am
As part of the Informatics for Health 2017 conference, we will organise a workshop to discuss the opportunities and challenges in clinical free text analytics. Free text remains the main means of communication within healthcare, with its written accounts becoming increasingly available in an electronic form. The capacity to effectively utilise free text to extract evidence to support clinical practice and epidemiological research is lagging behind structured and coded information, while arguably it contains the vast majority of actionable information.
The workshop will bring together representatives of several European networks to identify and discuss key opportunities and challenges in clinical text analytics, focusing on technical, ethical and legal barriers and unmet needs across Europe, and aligning those with other efforts in healthcare sciences.
